Stand Mixer Repair in South Carolina

Everything that is made up of moving parts will generally need repairing at some point. A car engine needs to be fixed. A washing machine needs to be fixed. A vacuum needs to be fixed. So why wouldn’t your KitchenAid stand mixer need to be fixed as well? It does and it will need it! This spring I Googled stand mixer repair in South Carolina once I heard my beloved and never maintained 17 year old KitchenAid mixer make some unpleasant noises.

The options seemed dismal until I came across Meg’s Mixers and More. This one-woman show, run by Meg herself, was the answer. I called her and she immediately chatted me through what she could do and how I could get my machine over to her. Meg works out of her home in the Irmo area of Columbia. She sees people coming from as far as a two hour radius to have her work on their machines!

Meg, who moved to the Columbia area from Michigan in 2024, began by doing maintenance on her own mixer. “In October 2024 I brainstormed ways to make extra cash for Christmas, with the economy the way it was,” said Meg. “In November I made posts in local Facebook groups and got a lot of interest. Following Christmas I realized I have this passion for doing it and don’t want to stop.”

After getting her LLC in 2025 and getting her website live in 2026, she’s on a roll.

Believe it or not, Meg is completely self-taught, mostly through Youtube videos and experience. “I was mechanically inclined from my younger years — woodworking, and cars. My dad was big on that type of stuff and a with a barn of full of tools and we’d work on things.”

Mixing It Up

KitchenAids make up the bulk of her repair work. She also has experience with Hobart, Oyster mixers, C4s, handheld mixers, and Sunbeam mixers. “I’m always willing to give it a try,” said Meg. “If it’s a different build than what I’ve personally worked on I’ll let people know I don’t have much experience on it but will try.”

Future plans include becoming Hobart certified to go into restaurants and work on commercial-grade mixers, but that involves going through training. She hopes to do this when her children are a little older. She has worked on mixers for local bakeries that have reached out to her.

Common Mixer Problems

Gear and speed issues are two of the most common problems Meg runs across. “In the gear box, the plastic gear is considered the sacrificial gear as a failsafe, so it will break if machine is overloaded,” she said. The bigger tilt head mixers, made for heavier jobs, can have motor issues because they don’t have the plastic gears.

As far as speed, any inconsistencies in speed could be an issue with many pieces, Meg said. “Grinding noises on tilt heads could be an issue with the motor bracket, of which there is currently a big shortage with the motor bracket.” When it comes to sourcing parts, she only sources OEM parts from Whirlpool and never uses knock off parts as they can harm a mixer in the long run. “I want the best of the best.”

Before there is even a problem, KitchenAid recommends replacing the grease once a year. “I think thats a little excessive but I say every one to three years, depending on how often you use it. For holiday bakers, every three years is fine,” said Meg. The cost for a standard KitchenAid mixer re-greasing runs about $100. Any repairs or electrical work are an additional $25 per issue plus parts. The cost for parts can change but are generally pretty consistent through there can be shipping delays.

I had Meg work her magic on two KitchenAid mixers I have, both pictured above. The pink one from 2009 is my original, and I also inherited my grandfather’s white 2003 mixer which I stupidly put into the attic, which is why I knew without a doubt it was going to need some love, which it got. Now it lives under a dust cover waiting for major holiday baking.
