Tequila Week at Tin Lizzy's

UPDATE: Tin Lizzy's in Columbia, South Carolina is now closed.

So who still does tequila shots? I don't generally fall into that category anymore but I made an exception this week when I was invited to try out the tequila shots that Tin Lizzy's is promoting this week in honor of National Tequila Day (which is today) but they are extending it out all week because why not?

We also enjoyed dinner with our shots because we're old now and can't handle liquor on empty stomachs. This was also a nice chance to check out Tin Lizzy's, which I haven't been to since shortly after they opened. I guess it's just on the opposite side of Gervais for me to think about stopping by on the way home, mostly.

Even though it was a hot day, the impending rain made it cool enough to sit outside and look at the cars and people passing by on Gervais, and admire the recently renovated area that houses TL, Tsunami, and Vista Union, which I hear has pool tables.

But back to Tin Lizzy's. We started off with a three amigos, which is chips and guac, salsa, and queso. Unlike every other millennial, I don't love avocados, but dipping the chips in guacamole then queso made it tastier. Patrick commented on the chunkiness, which he appreciated and I agree. Too smooth of a guacamole is too much like paste.

Between our appetizer and entrees, we went for our shots, which the special is a shot of 1800 tequila for $2. Rimmed with salt and a lime, I still look like an 18 year old when taking tequila shots, faces and all. The 1800 goes down pretty smooth for tequila and then tapers off to a nice spiciness as it lingers in your throat. I'd have done more of them if I didn't have to go to work the next day.

Our entrees were delicious and nicely done: three tacos for Patrick (Philly cheesesteak, cheeseburger, and gyro) and a skillet for me. Of the tacos, he said, "These are just other types of food wrapped in a taco. Still tasty though."

My skillet was excellent both fresh and as leftovers the next day. I did what everyone does and totally filled up on chips and wasn't super hungry for my actual meal. When will I learn and just have chips as my meal?

So, moral of the story, special tequila shots at Tin Lizzy's. Also, chips and dips. Let's all go do that soon, but maybe we can play pool around the corner afterwards k?
