Harissa Yogurt Sauce for Fries

Trader Joe's harissa, hot chili pepper paste

I made ya'll work for it on the last recipe using this spicy paste — harissa falafel — but this one is three ingredient easy. I still have a good amount of harissa left, and want to complete its journey through the fridge. Harissa is a chili pepper paste with herbs and spices. Yes, it is spicy! But you can adjust the spice levels and tone it done as much or as little as you want when you combine it with dairy, nature's soother.

We're going to make frozen fries because we're busy people who enjoy a little convenience every now and then, and we're going to dip them in a harissa-yogurt sauce. The harissa brings the flavor, and the yogurt brings both the vehicle for said flavor and it keeps the harissa from straight up burning your face off.

Ingredients

  • 1 bag of frozen Ore-Ida fries your choice of shape (I like crinkle cut myself)
  • ½ cup whole milk Greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp harissa adjust to taste as needed

Instructions

  • Bake the fries according to package directions.
  • Mix up the yogurt and harissa. You may want to start with a half tablespoon of harissa, taste, and adjust accordingly. I found that this ratio gave spice and flavor but didn’t leave me desperately glugging down water to wash away the heat.
  • Dip the finished fries into the sauce and that’s it!

And of course there'll be another harissa using recipe or two before it's all said and done and we move on to the next condiment. Maybe it'll be key lime juice, maybe it'll be jelly, we'll see what happens!
