Savory Rainbow Food Roundup

Rainbows and unicorns, if they had a flavor, would be super sugary, don't you think? The chemically dyed, over-frosted, glittered, and super extra rainbow (or sometimes called unicorn) foods that we see online usually are all sweets, but there's a whole world of rainbow-y goodness that can be savory too!

I rounded up a list of five savory rainbow food options to show new ways to taste the rainbow without tasting much, if any sugar. Not to say that I don't enjoy over dyed, sugar-laden rainbow foods as well, because I totally do, as evidenced by some instances on my Instagram and on my recipes page.

Rainbow Grits

Did you know grits come in colors other than light yellow? Blue corn make amazing lavender colored grits, and red corn makes this thick pink polenta (but I'm calling it grits cause #Southern) a great base for a rainbow of vibrant veggies. The recipe for these pink grits/polenta and the add-ons is super easy and should always be cheesy. I get my grits from Congaree Milling Company. Tell Ken I sentcha if you see him at the Soda City market!

Rainbow Sushi

Believe it or not, these sushi rolls are dyed with natural juices and have a great vibrant color wrapped 360 degrees around the sushi fillings of your choice. The fillings could also be another rainbow within the outer rainbow if you choose bright colors.

Rainbow Spring Rolls

Vegetables, flowers, even bright pink shrimp can make rice paper spring rolls pop with color. These matchstick cut vegetables are bundled together tightly and wrapped in a delicate rice paper so that the colors are preserved. A peanut sauce gives them an extra pop of flavor. The best part of these is that since they aren't fried, they are extremely healthy!

Rainbow Pizza

Who cares if the crust is cauliflower when the toppings are this gorgeously arranged? You could even skip the cauli crust if you're not doing low-carb, because those rainbow pizza toppings look like they need a solid base to make it from the plate to your mouth. This is 100% going on the menu for one night soon!

Rainbow Sandwich

Thrive Magazine's Instagram feed is an endless array of inspiration for plant-based rainbow foods, and this thinly-sliced pile of veggies on bread is no exception! How do they cram so much into that little pita pocket? Find out from them and see if you can make thicc stacks too!
