Projects for a Cold Winter's Day

September 23, 2020 by April

Well, summertime is officially GONE. It went from feeling like 100 F one week, to 50 F degree mornings in less than two weeks. My allergies and sinuses are responding accordingly, which means I feel super, ugh.

No matter how any of us feels about winter, it comes every year, marking a change of how we do things and live our lives. Even if winter doesn't bother someone, they still have to adjust how they do small daily activities, like the transition from shorts to pants. And short sleeves to long sleeves, then adding a jacket. Going outside to warm up the car in the morning means waking up five minutes early (except this year, yay working from home!), and the availability of certain foods inevitably change as well.

Sometimes I wish I lived in a seasonless place like Hawaii, with constant, perfect temperatures every day, but that might help the years slide by even more quickly. Without an obvious change of seasons, how would you know it's time to do certain things like put up a Christmas (palm) tree or remember your anniversary?

But the change in weather, however dramatic, reminds me there are some projects that must be done before it gets too cold out, and some that are better set aside for the kind of days where you don't even want to step outside. I love lists, and I am sure others will be looking to stockpile cold day activities, so why not gather all my ideas here? I'm sure I'll appreciate this foresight on a frigid January 17th when I am bored and need something to keep myself busy.

Indoor Projects for a Winter Day

  • Paint the bedroom - It desperately needs a new coat of the same color! Meatloaf sleeping in the bed
  • Paint the trim throughout the house - Also in desperate need of a new coat. Trim painting is the worst though.Living room with purple floral curtains
  • Paint the interior doors - These haven't been done since 2011, and we use the doors every day, so they look rough. Plus, if the trim is done, the doors need to look just as fresh!
  • Make geode resin coasters - This kit may be for kids, but it looks like fun! Who doesn't need a few extra sparkly coasters around the house?
  • DIY a headboard for the guest bedroom - I bought a gorgeous Moroccan influenced headboard on Wayfair, but it does NOT fit with the bed frame I bought and the room looks blah. Winter seems like a good time to figure out this situation. Guest bedroom with 12" bed frame
  • Work on blog stuff - my About and Work with Me pages are atrocious and out of date. These will be taken care of this winter.
  • Finish Stupid Simple SEO - I bought this course early in 2020 and got through about ⅓ of it, then got the urge to create content instead, so I need to finish it up! It's got a lot of great information for bloggers and is one of the more reasonably priced courses that comes with lots of extras, like a Facebook group with lots of knowledgeable people.

What kind of activities are you storing up for the winter? Or are you the kind of person that doesn't care what the weather is like and just does it no matter what?
