Pool Day Snack Ideas to Get You Invited Back

Feet in a pool

It really sucks living in South Carolina and not having a real pool in the backyard during our blisteringly hot summers. I have a few friends with pools (or their parents or neighborhoods have pools at least) so when I score an invite to lounge in their cool blue lagoons, I jump at every opportunity. And to ensure repeat invites, I always try to ingratiate myself so that every time they go swimming, they’ll want me there too. It’s like delicious Pavlonian training, really. Positive reinforcement. Invite me over, I’ll bring tasty pool day snacks, like these!

To help any of you out there who suffer from a lack of pool too in these torching times, I’ve rounded up a list of easy but highly desirable snacks and treats that’ll keep you in the refreshing blue depths of someone else’s chlorinated paradise all summer long.

Boiled peanut hummus

Dill vegetable dip

Hummus stuffed mini peppers

Olive oil guacamole

Jessica’s blue cheese dip

Trina’s pimento cheese

Peanut butter and jelly thumbprint cookies

Layered jello shots (but mix up the colors, like red, white, and blue for patriotic holidays?!)

For those dairy-based dips, you’re not going to want to leave them sitting in the heat, so definitely plan to invest in a dip chiller or two. I have one similar to this one and love it. You just add ice to the bottom and put the dip up top, like a double boiler but for cooling purposes.

But how about this though? A floating snack bar with room for ice to chill beverages and snacks PLUS cupholders! I imagine this is only useful if your pool guests don't tend towards the unruly.  Click on the rainbow and buy it, and then invite me over. I'll stock it and won't cannonball in to tip it over, I swear. Let's do this.

Also plan to get a netted food tent to keep those freakin’ flies out of everything! I’ve got one like this, and the ones the link leads to comes in multiples so you can cover several foods at once, which is very handy at parties with several types of food.

So are we doing this or what? Let's get snackin' at your pool! I'm ready!
