The April Blake

November Roundup

Once again I find myself marveling at the passage of time. November was a quick month for me in that I spent the first half eagerly anticipating the second half, then they both came and went, leaving me wondering what in the world was going on.

Other than waiting through the first half, I spent it on boarding my first paying social media client for Social Graces Media. YAY! Other than some technical problems that were a huge learning curve, I feel really great about it. Do you want to be a client? I am only taking on five clients (plus one pro bono for a nonprofit that needs it!) at a time, so jump in if you want to be part of it!

I also cooked a little bit during the beginning of the month, sharing recipes for kale parmesan salad, and blender tomato soup.

But the real reason I was eagerly awaiting the second half of the month was my second trip out west this year! I went to VEGAS!

My mom and aunts went as an early birthday trip for my mom! She's never gone anywhere really, and hasn't even been on a plane since the early 90s. Until now! We all survived getting through security and the four hour flights each way.

We stayed at the Paris, which was perfectly situated in the center of the strip. And our room view was just fantastic.

Oooh yeah. We were there Wednesday through Sunday which meant we barely had time to adjust to the time difference, so I was up at about 6:30 every morning. We went to two shows, and did about 30 miles of walking in those four days.

This is an interesting Vegas tip: in the Paris at least, if you refuse room service for more than two days, they will come in your room for a safety check to make sure you don't have guns or anything. This is new following the Vegas shooting in 2017.

We didn't eat at a ton of interesting places except two: The first was Eggslut. It's located on the second level of the Cosmopolitan, and is a counter service place where you wait in a line that goes quickly, and they call your order so you can grab it and go. There is some seating scattered around the restaurant. I got the Slut, a potato puree topped with a coddled egg, in a jar, that you dip toast sticks into. I am totally going to try and recreate this experience at home. I read online that their orange juice was amazing and it really was. You can taste that it's freshly squeezed and it's worth the kind of insane price of it.

The other more memorable eating experience came from a let down. I wanted to go to the buffet at the Wynn, but at 2 p.m., the wait to even get in was still 45 minutes long. We noped out and went to Red 8, Chinese restaurant also located in the Wynn. I was starting to get hangry by then, so time was of the essence. This is mapo tofu over vermicelli with Impossible meat (instead of the traditional pork). It was really tasty and I ate nearly the entire enormous serving. Once again, I hope to recreate this at home!

We got back the Sunday before Thanksgiving, so it became Thanksgiving very quickly. It still doesn't feel like it's come and gone, except for the glorious four-day break from having to go to work (though I still worked on my freelancing and some business work but funny enough, it didn't feel like WORK).

There's only one month left of this decade, how are you spending it?
