May Roundup

May 31, 2020 by April

I never thought we'd still be working at home through May. This month is always my favorite, and holds several special dates, not to mention generally fabulous weather. We're still home for the foreseeable future, and I probably only went out in public a handful of times this month, which sets the tone for this May roundup.

Unfortunately May brought a sharp decrease in people doing the right thing in South Carolina, as far as coronavirus goes. People got sick of wearing masks and not standing in tightly packed groups with strangers before the curve was flattened, which added to my desire to stay in all the more. The idea of being home even more made me decide to get going on our next home improvement project though, which is totally happening. More on that in June!

In addition to that, I celebrated my 35th birthday (omgggg), and the next weekend, our 11th wedding anniversary. We didn't celebrate my birthday or our anniversary, but it was okay. It didn't seem worth it to have a sad little forced celebration just to do it. So we acknowledged the days, made them enjoyable and pleasant, and went through them like they were any other quarantine day.

Somehow, despite nearly three months of very limited social contact outside of one another, we are doing quite well. We've had a few moments but we've both been smart enough to retreat to our opposite ends of the house to hide out til we cooled off. Ain't no need to start a war within the house while we are confined to it, that's for sure. It's a sure sign that we've both grown up a lot together, which I think is the best advice for any couple — grow yourselves together and separately, but always in the same direction.

May Recipes

As for cooking, I've been in the kitchen in spurts. Some days I am so over the idea of eating food I made, but I keep overbuying at the grocery store, so eat at home I must. Here's what I made in May:

  • Lavender Lemonade
  • Pasta Dough for the KitchenAid Pasta Extruder
  • Peanut Butter and Chocolate Swirl Tiger Butter Fudge
  • Pretzel Bites with Miso Mustard Dipping Sauce
  • Frozen Vegetable Gumbo
  • Walnut Oil Salad Dressing
  • No Bake Rum Balls

Plus, I rounded up a list of 25 meatless meal ideas in case the meat shortage plays out or makes people reconsider their meat consumption.

Everything Else

I shared my thoughts on quarantining, mask-wearing, and how awkward social distancing is going to be (but still do it, k?)

That's pretty much life at our house. Food, making our home even better so we might actually never want to leave it again, and dogs everywhere. These dogs are loving us being at home all of the time, and Radar shows her feelings by laying in the path of everywhere we walk.
