The April Blake

Frozen Violet Lemonade

I have always wanted to go to Disney World's Plant and Flower Show, held each April at the most magical place on Earth! The landscaping at Disney is already out of this world impeccable, and when they are bringing their A game? I can't even imagine. They also trot out their finest floral food and beverage offerings from what I hear, and that includes a frozen violet lemonade.

In 2018 a friend posted an Instagram photo of hers and mentioned she had elderflower liqueur in hers too. It sounded so good, I saved the Insta post and came across it again recently. Being kinda bored and in need of an interesting cocktail, I ordered violet syrup and picked up elderflower liqueur at the liquor store.

Now, I can't believe I waited so long to make it. WOW! I love floral cocktails, and this is a double dose of garden-y goodness. It's the perfect way to usher in spring, especially this spring.

Violet lemonade cocktail

By the way, the first day of spring is March 20! HAPPY SPRING! We've all needed it since it got really cold at the end of 2020.

Frozen Violet Lemonade

Inspired by the violet lemonade served at Epcot's International Flower and Garden Festival, this slushy purple drink has a boozy option to make it an even more floral cocktail!

Sourcing the Ingredients

Unless you just have a really, really well-stocked liquor cabinet, you'll likely need to source two ingredients: the violet syrup, and the elderflower liqueur.

I bought a bottle of violet syrup online, and have never seen it out in stores, even ones that carry lots of Monin syrups. Or you could get this floral elixir kit with several different floral syrups, including violet. Just save yourself the effort of hunting around and buy it online whichever way you choose.

Elderflower liqueur is available is just about all well-stocked liquor stores. Smaller stores may only carry St. Germain's, but larger box liquor stores should have smaller bottles, and a wider variety of brands so you don't have to commit to a big, expensive bottle up front.
