Drink Up, It's Olive Oil!

The benefits of olive oil are well-known: it's heart healthy, lowers your cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and reduction of inflammation, to name just a few.

I recently partnered with Evergreen Life to try out one of their new products- OLIFE, which is an herbal olive leaf water extract supplement, aka water with some herbal extracts. It's not really drinking olive oil! It's touted benefits include: antioxidants, maintaining normal blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol levels, and restoring mental alertness when experiencing fatigue or drowsiness. All of those sound like things I want, especially the maintenance of cholesterol levels because my triglycerides have been slightly high the past two times I had my blood work done.

The directions say to take a ¼ cup daily, preferably in the morning before breakfast. The first day that I tried OLIFE, I tried to sip it like a beverage, but discovered that it needs to be treated more like a liquor shot. So in that spirit, I've been measuring out my daily amount in an actual shot glass and tipping it back like it was 11 p.m. on a Saturday night instead of 7 a.m. over the kitchen sink.

The liquid itself has a pleasant, fruity aroma, like a really good olive oil. It has almost a citrusy bouquet but don't be fooled, this doesn't taste like orange juice. It's the most pleasant of tastes, it's very "green" and herbal. So taking it like a shot is the way to go if you're willing to endure the taste for the touted benefits. One good thing I can say about the flavor is that there isn't any gross lingering aftertaste like some health drinks can have.

After using it for a few days, then taking a break for a long weekend, then returning to it the morning after Labor Day, I have to say that I can only really attest to the mental alertness claim, as I don't plan on getting blood work done again anytime soon to test to see if it's helped to maintain those levels, because ouch! But after I finish this quart bottle, I'll update with any further information on how a daily dose has affected me.

Quart sized bottles can be purchased on their website, where you can also find more information about Olife and Evergreen Life.
