Hi! I am April Blake
and I am a writer living in Columbia, South Carolina. I've been blogging in this space since 2011, and mostly write about food, travel, and life in the South. I started this blog in order to have a place to showcase my writing samples to get freelance writing work on the side. Mission accomplished — I've been getting paid to write since 2012!
These days, this blog showcases the fantastical food combinations and recipes that I come up with and adapt for my own amusement, and hopefully yours too. Most of the food you'll see here are Southern-based recipes that I modernize from my extensive cookbook collection, and recipes I reinvent from my travels, and some recipes just come out of nowhere from the depths of my mind.
The rest are fun desserts and other generally healthy dinners and snacks. Experimenting with meat-free meals and meat alternatives is also something I like to share with people here too. In this ever-changing world with less regulation over our food, meat-free eating is something that more people look to embrace.
I enjoy writing, cooking, baking and eating the results ... I am also a fan of craft beer, novelty flavors of chips, decorating our house, finding new restaurants and shops around town, putting clothes on my dogs, and freshly made beds. I hate whistling.
I live with my husband Patrick, and our three dogs: Radar Love, Cherry Pie, and Meatloaf. I was born and raised in Lexington, South Carolina, and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in public relations. I currently work as a corporate website editor during the day, and I also freelance in writing, and recipe development.
