It’s Far Too Easy To Buy Things Online

I bought this domain today before I went on my lunch break and feel exhilarated to finally have a .com of my very own, and also angry at the fact that websiting is a lot more involved than I ever thought! How did the Internet ever get this far? I swear I was able to handle HTML back in 1998, what happened?! Until I get a grip on things, the posts may not be as frequent, or things may look out of whack, just me taking the time to get used to this higher level of the ball...

In Which I Describe My Dream Job*

I want to have my hands dirty with words and creativity and gooey ideas that haven’t yet been completely thought through. I want to be respected as an innovator that comes up with some “weird stuff” that people later look at and go “yeah, yeah, that works!”I enjoy the smudge of ink on my hands after I thumb through a final draft of a publication I’ve worked on. I keep a notepad and pen on my nightstand because I’ll wake up from a cold sleep and have something that I’ve got to finish thinking through, but know myself well enough that I write it down or it will flutter out of my ears in my sleep, and fly out of my window like a quiet little bird. I can’t remember anything that I don’t write down and keep multiple lists on me at all times. If reading made you gain weight, I would have to be airlifted out of my home. I take in information and ideas that span from celebrity gossip to how to poach an egg to the best ways to invest in real estate. Magazines are stacked up in my bathroom, novels are a fixture by the bed. My Google Reader has posts in the triple digits daily, and I take in just about every word in each of those posts as something I might need...

Shopping Charlotte on A Saturday

This past Saturday my friend Emily and I loaded up into her Tahoe and trekked up to Charlotte, NC for a day of shopping in the magical wonderland stores that we do not have in Columbia. Our itinerary included Mary Jo’s  Cloth Store in Gastonia, which was overwhelming with fabric. We both stopped in our tracks at the door and gaped, but not for long, because I tore through the rows and rows and rows of fabric for the bathroom after the hour and a half drive up. Emily quilts and was looking to see what kind of fabrics they had for some custom order quilts she is going to make soon. My favorite aisle was the vegetable, fruits and snacks aisle. There were FOUR DIFFERENT typed of onion print fabric. Garlic, lettuce, corn, tomatoes, and curly fry fabric which is pictured below. Who would need curly fry print fabric? What would you make with this? I want Emily to make me a vegetable soup quilt, but she politely told me to forget it. Then it was on to Ikea, which I have no pictures of, but I do have pictures of some of my finds farther down. Ikea wasn’t terribly crowded for a Saturday, which was pleasant. We made it through it about an hour, believe it or not. By then we were hungry, so we loaded up...

A Reverse Resume

To relax from my exciting day in Charlotte (post + pics coming once my husband comes home and gives me the card reader back), I am staying in for the night and reading blogs and the 20sb forums. I came across Elysa’s website, Genpink, and let me just say, ten posts in and I just love her style. I came across this guest post titled Refresh Your Resume: Four Alternative Resumes to Invigorate Your Job Search and it really got me to thinking about my resume. It’s your standard education, 3 most relevant jobs, professional groups/activities/awards Microsoft Word published document. Her advice is to try a video resume, or a slideshow resume, neither of which would work for me as they would feel awkward. Especially the video resume. I feel like the incarnation of the word derp when I have a video camera trained on me. A creative portfolio might work… if I had an impressive collection of work to show off, which I do not really have, and the few unrelated press releases and flyers I’ve done doesn’t even impress me. However, the Reverse Resume really caught my attention because it breaks all the rules of regular resumes. No bullet points, no centered name and firstandlastnameonly@email.com addresses! Just a chance to be real and say exactly what you WANT from you next job, not squeezing yourself into what...

Shopping Without Dropping

I need some new work clothes, and especially shoes. I’ve quite literally worn holes in two of my go-to pairs: one pair of black ankle booties, and one pair of Kenneth Cole Reaction ballet flats. This is the time for deals, when stores want to put out their enticing new spring line and they have to mark down the old stuff. However, I am always so chilly that I’ll still wear the cool weather gear through April at least. My laziness today is why there are only links, no images. http://piperlime.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=8557890020002&cid=49526 http://www.charlotterusse.com/product/index.jsp?productId=10850228&cp=4078198.4335463 http://www.anntaylorloft.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=29333&categoryId=3364&pCategoryId=null&productVariantId=230659&quantity=1&itemGUID=1015bda3c0a8656e00880088a1c0c43d&sizeType=Regular&color=Strawberry%20Red&size=M http://www.anntaylorloft.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=29762&categoryId=3364&pCategoryId=null&productVariantId=233732&quantity=1&itemGUID=100e0953c0a8656e0088008891fdde6a&sizeType=Regular&color=Lunar%20Grey&size=M http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/womens/brandswomen/212collection/PRD~781263/212+Collection+Floral+Mesh+Top.jsp (in red) http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/womens/career/sweaters/PRD~692111/Apt+9+Ribbed+Sweater+Set.jsp (in red or lavender) http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/womens/cardigans/PRD~680515/Apt+9+CableKnit+Flyaway+Cardigan.jsp (dark gray) http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/womens/cardigans/PRD~739288/Simply+Vera+Vera+Wang+MockLayer+Cardigan.jsp (in hot pink!) http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/womens/cardigans/PRD~699337/Croft+and+Barrow+CableKnit+Cardigan.jsp (in light blue) http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/womens/tops/shirtsblouses/PRD~766140/axcess+Medallion+Mesh+Top.jsp (in blue) http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/womens/tops/shirtsblouses/PRD~723984/Apt+9+Floral+Sublimation+Top.jsp http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/womens/dresses/trends/partydresses/PRD~720403/Suite+7+Asymmetrical+Tiered+Taffeta+Dress.jsp (in blue) For my fancy party in March! Wow, I really need to go ahead and quit there. I have virtually spend probably $200-400 just there, I am sure. I’ll sit on that list and probably get a few things next week. I am going to Charlotte this weekend for a few cases of Three Buck Chuck for the aforementioned fancy party, an obligatory Ikea trip, and a stop by a fabric emporium that my quilting enthusiast road trip buddy wants to stop by. Just FYI, Charles Shaw Shiraz is fantastic. The pinot grigio is hit or miss for me, depending on my mood, but that Shiraz always hits the spot....
