Alright ya’ll, we can start getting excited for autumn now, even though we’ve had some bizarrely autumnal days in August. Famously hot? Eh, not so much, but we aren’t complaining too hard, because it means that in addition to pumpkin frenzy being acceptable and watched for, it means festival season! Gay, Italian, Greek, we’ve got it all!

Sept. 1 – Last day to sign up for a fall Pinckney’s CSA share and guarantee you’ll get your first week’s delivery, but shares can be signed up for until they are full.

Sept. 1 – Last day to enter the competitive exhibits at the State Fair. Jazz up your jam with a blue ribbon this year.

Sept. 5 – the Nickelodeon is celebrating its first year in its shiny new digs by inviting everyone to the party during First Thursday on Main. Rumor has it there will be an enormous cake.

Sept. 5th – Feeling fancy? Bourbon and Bowties is also happening this evening from 6-9 p.m. at the SC State Museum. Tickets are $40 for non-members.

Sept. 7 – Viva La Vista! From 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. you can eat and drink and wander the streets of the Vista with no fear of getting mowed down by cars (within the blocked off areas, of course)! This is Columbia’s answer to a food and drink festival, so come on down to show your love to the most exciting part of town!

Sept. 28 – I am proud to take part in the SC Pride parade for the past few years as an onlooker from the sidewalk as they party down Main Street to proclaim their love and excitement for life. The hateful protesters can go to hell while the rest of us are awash in rainbow pride at this family friendly (seriously, it is) event that makes you feel happy to see so many supporters. And that’s what I got to say about that.

Sept. 28 – You wanna be part of the family? They’re all down at the Italian Festival today, and they’ll certainly welcome you like you’re one of their own! Party with them all day from 11 a.m. through 10 p.m. at the Robert Mills House. Admission is free.
