All the things that are fit to put in your mouth for the month of May are rounded up here! As you can see, once Memorial Day rolls around, organized events drop off sharply because everyone’s flocking to the coast (or I’d like to think they do, at least).

May 2Lake Murray is Cooking, Hosted by Lake Murray Chamber of Commerce will be at the Saluda River Club from 5:30-8:30 p.m. The cost is $15; or $25 for a couple.

May 3– Book signing for Columbia Food will be at Uptown on Main Street at 12-2 p.m. with a blogger lunch prior at Roll Call Deli (right next to Uptown). Tweet me if you’d like to join us for lunch so we can get enough table space!

May 4Irmo Farmer’s Market will have its inaugural market at 9 a.m. on Carlisle Street.

May 5– Cinco de Mayo is a holiday that became twisted into GET DRUNK ON MARGARITAS, AMERICA! but if you want to celebrate with some super authentic food, ir a la Tienda Jasmine on 12th Street in West Columbia (in the same strip as Wentworth Printing). Brush up on your espanol before you go, and don’t miss the Panaderia Odalys next door to it, with some really amazing (and inexpensive!) pastries. It’s a beautiful secret, but just be cool and try to at least say gracias when you head out.

May 8– It’s my birthday! Take me out somewhere expensive to eat!

May 11Food Photography & Styling: A Class. is the one event all month to not miss. Learn styling and camera techniques from Caroline of ChocolateAndCarrots.com while eating some of Columbia’s best local favorites!

May 12– Mother’s Day. Restaurants are going to be SLAMMED between Mother’s Day and graduation weekend, tread carefully, and Godspeed ye chefs and servers.

May 13– kicks off American Craft Beer Week and you know who is excited? World of Beer, that’s who! They have a week of excellent specials and fun events to celebrate the craftiest of beers and brewers.

May 15– Ankh Life International Vegan Cafe, a “sister restaurant to Lambs Bread Vegan Cafe,” is set to open at 6164 St. Andrews Rd.

May 20Lower Richland Sweet Potato Festival– where orange is acceptable in the context of enjoying eating sweet potatoes.

May 30Berry Tasty Cooking Class at Charleston Cooks! Learn how to incorporate berries into every meal at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $60.
