Today kicks off a 10 day celebration of the Midlands’ finest and most loved dining establishments with South Carolina Restaurant Week! If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, last year was a smorgasbord of great experiences and meals out with friends. I visited Virtu (now closed), Mr. Friendly’s, and Cantina 76 during RW 2012.
This year after feeling the depressing crunch in my paycheck thanks to the new federal tax excitement, I am being even more selective and judicious about where I spend my hard earned dollars. With a preliminary scanning of the prix fixe menus that most places are serving up, I’ve made a short list of places that are offering meatless options, an increasingly important thing in a world where health is becoming a higher priority and meat is becoming more expensive. My plans are to (try to) hit up three places, one I’ve been to before and two new to me:
- Cellar on Greene
- Il Giorgione
- Moe’s Grapevine
Other places that are having wonderful sounding vegetarian options are Oak Table and Rosso but they are featuring mushroom laden dishes, which I just don’t do. I was/am thisclose to thinking about trying the Wild Mushroom Risotto at the Oak Table, so I may just plan to try them outside of Restaurant Week for a fair chance. Villa Tronco is offering eggplant parmesan as a main course, as is Alodia’s.
