The iPhone has this great little app that comes pre-installed called Reminders. It’s a checklist that can be used for to do lists, grocery lists, honey-do lists, or any way you can think to use it. This particular morning I used it on my ride up to the office (I took the shuttle today, it was hot!) to make a list of things and chores I could tackle this weekend to stay busy because this weekend is going to be as much of a free-kend as I can make it. That is, I am going to do as much free stuff as possible.
The one thing planned where I’ll probably spend just a little cash is at the Piggly Wiggly & Charleston Pickle Company’s Locals Party at the Piggly Wiggly on Devine St. on Saturday. There will be samples and free fried pickles, but I know without a shadow of a doubt I’ll end up buying a jar or two, because hello, pickles are delicious and I want some! It runs from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m. if you’re so inclined to check it out!
I’ll also pick up some SC peaches while I’m there to make a test recipe that I am considering entering in the Gilbert Peach Festival recipe contest for a cookout with my family later in the afternoon. Whether or not I enter will be based on the enthusiasm of those eating my creation! Anyone planning on going to the Peach Festival? I want to go with my friend Jenn like we did last year but it seriously is going to be hotter than the underside of the sun. But the peach slushes are SO GOOD. I want to know what they put in them to make them so good! Actually, it’s probably best to just stay ignorant and just enjoy it, since it probably entails about a cup of sugar per slush.
And in between all of that food related excitement, I am going to be doing things like: scrub shower tile, steam mop floors, do all of the laundry. Don’t you wish you were me?
To round off this particular free-kend I also have plans to learn how to cut wood by way of building a wooden weight rack like this one with my mom’s manfriend’s assistance. I am very excited, learning to operate saws has been on my life skills list for a while! Then it’s BOOK CLUB TIME! Emily came up with the awesome idea of doing a book club to make sure that we regularly get together with our ladyfriends once a month. This is a lot more than we’ve been getting together since we started shacking up with guys, getting married, and having to hold full time jobs, so even if we neglect to talk about the book at all (Fifty Shades of Grey because we are so trendy right now) it’ll be a wine-soaked good time! Can’t wait!
PSA: Keep your pets INSIDE THIS WEEKEND. It’s going to be so hot that telling someone to go to hell will be a good thing, since hell will be cooler than South Carolina.
