In one’s life they can look at themselves and have to decide what is and is not their “thing.”
One can try to do everything well, but they’ll fail, as I have learned. My thing is food, and healthiness, and some forms of exercise. My thing is not fashion. It’s about all I can do to match everyday, or to not wear a standard uniform of black pants and an appropriate top. I even had to text my mom this photo this morning to make sure that this pattern mixing was acceptable (the shirt is on the left in this pic)!
While fashion may not be my thing, I do like to pretend that I like it and sometimes come away looking semi-respectable and I love to let people know what’s happening around Cola- town. With that being said, this week is the first ever Columbia Style Week!
I know, when you think of Columbia, South Carolina you generally do not think of high fashion, or even fashion at all. But there really are lots of great fashion blogs like The Shop Tart and Lord Maxwell, and many more who are based in the Midlands (go to them for advice on how to match threads!), online publications like Wink and G&B Style, and there are lots of original designers and boutiques that can be found in the heart of our state.
The State paper has a great write up about Cola Fashion Week and a list of the events that kick off at 6 p.m. tonight at the Tapp’s Art Center. Events are going on through this weekend so you’ll have plenty of time to rustle up and outfit and confer with someone else on whether or not it’s stylish enough to appear in in front of Columbia’s most elegantly eclectic crowd!
