Mmm! Bone-In Artisan BBQ (But Not BBQ!)

by April on August 18, 2011

I finally got a chance to try the Bone-In Artisan BBQ truck today and with no wait at all! It was parked outside of the Art Bar for the Social Crush wrap up party that I crashed went to after work yesterday. After spending two days seeing my Twitter feed filled with #socialcrush hashtags, it was great to meet some of the people behind the @s! Even if I have to pay for it myself and use vacation days, I am determined to go next year. Everyone was so friendly at the after-party, I can only imagine it’s the same excited, ready-to-learn, ready-to-implement atmosphere at the actual event.

I had a lot of fun and spent more time than I planned to there, so securing food before my (first ever!) kickball game the same night was of the utmost importance. Luckily, food trucks are designed to be where the crowds are to provide them with the food they need, and since not a lot of other people were in line, I asked for a vegetarian sandwich, which they happily accomadated by making me a pimento cheese sandwich without the chorizo. It came with a choice of salad or chips, so I opted for the chips since I knew I wouldn’t be able to eat it all before the game and the chips stood a better chance of being able to survive in the car for the hour kickball game. The chips are handcut and are sprinkled with dill, which I didn’t really notice until eating them at home later. Mmm, dill on potatoes! It works. The sandwich worked really well too. Grilled pimento cheese > pimento cheese on plain bread.

And hiding under the chips was this cup o’ purple slaw. I love eating purple food because so much food isn’t purple. It’s nice to be able to eat a rainbow.

And of course no meal is complete without a drink! And it’s even better if it’s a free drink courtesy of Sips Shots Shaken Stirred, and even better yet when it’s “my” signature drink- vodka Sprite.

I’ve got my Sprite, I’ve got my #socialcrush.

Today the BBQ truck is supposed to be on campus feeding the hungry student masses. Unless you’re already in that unholy mess, I would suggest finding them later via their Twitter feed. I will still be stalking them to try the fried green tomato on scallion waffle concoction that I missed out on at the last Food Truck Food Court, so watch out ya’ll!
